Jawline Filler

Straightening the Jawline
With ageing we often begin to see undulations in the jawline and the beginnings of jowls.
This is partly descent of the soft tissues from volume loss in the upper and mid face and partly that our jawbone begins to recede and shrink as bone reabsorption speeds up. Think smaller table (jaw bone) and same size tablecloth (the skin and soft tissue on top).
As well as the jawline itself, the chin often plays a vital role in correcting “sag” particularly as we move along the jawline from the earlobe to the mouth corners. An appropriate reinforcement of volume and delicate shaping of the chin helps recruit tissue that has begun to overhang at the mouth corners.
The Jawline is a bugbear for many as we ascend the decades. With subtle support and definition, a straighter and more defined jawline may be achieved. Strategically injected, anchoring from above, supporting from below and masking shadows/correcting minor deformities in the middle.
The jawline and the chin have an essential role in the overall shape of the face. Treated effectively, this creates a refreshed and more defined impression without broadening the face inappropriately.
Ideally the jawline should be addressed at the “pre jowl” stage, when a mild to moderate “sag” is becoming visible.

The Process
After careful assessment, the area is numbed, sterilised with filler injected into specific points along the jawline. This often includes the chin for an added “stretch” in the tissues. Both needle and cannula are used for the most effective results.
1. Filler Injection
The filler is then shaped and moulded to ensure a confluent transition along the jawline. Minimal amounts of filler are used, for an effective but subtle finish.

Frequently asked questions
-
You may experience swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising at the injection site. Uneven swelling is normal and should balance out as it subsides. These effects typically resolve within a few days to two weeks.
-
Bruising can occur despite precautions to avoid it. If bruising happens, it will typically be apparent immediately after treatment. Bruises may change colour as they heal, from red to purple, black, green, and eventually yellow. Using Arnica and Vitamin K cream can help speed up the healing process.
-
We aim for subtle, natural results, which take 2-4 weeks to fully settle. A review can be scheduled afterward, where additional filler can be added for a fee, or, if needed, filler can be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase.
-
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Numbing cream and local anaesthetic are used for added comfort.
-
It’s best to avoid applying makeup for 12-24 hours after your filler procedure to reduce the risk of infection or irritation at the injection site.
