Tear Troughs (Dark Circles)
From £400
Fresh looking eyes are a major asset to the overall appearance of a healthy and fresh looking face.
Some of us have tear trough hollows naturally from a young age and the vast majority of us develop them over the course of the years.
A tear trough is a lack of volume and support around the lower eyelid, forming a groove from the tear duct area and proceeding as a diagonal indentation downwards into the cheek, and/or around the socket of the eye. When we have a groove like this, it casts a shadow, which makes us look tired.
Looking tired is one of the main impetuses for people seeking non-surgical intervention. Whether they feel it or not, they look (and are often told they look) tired.
By gently injecting fine filler into the tear trough, it plumps the skin and means that the light now bounces off the area (rather than being drawn into the hollow). This illuminates and softens the shadows that cause us to look tired.
Taking the face as a whole, often volume in other areas has eroded or descended and with it the support it provided. In many cases the tear trough goes hand-in-hand with reinstating lost mid face volume (giving vertical support) to the lower eyelid. Subtly reinstating appropriate facial volume this will affect best results.
The skin is very fine around the eye and the treatment must be conservative, often done over two sessions, one month apart. As the area is susceptible to bruising, a cannula is a popular option to significantly reduce this risk.
If naturally prone to water retention, polynucleotides are an appropriate alternative to consider.

The Process
This is a vital part of the process as not everybody is suitable for tear trough filler. The depth of the tear trough hollow must be assessed as well as other anatomical structures that may be adding the the unmasking of the tear trough
1. Assessment
Once the assessment and appropriate plan has been determined, the area is numbed, sterilised and a conservative amount of filler injected by cannula and / or needle. The product is carefully sculpted and moulded. A review is recommended at 4 weeks post treatment.
2. Injecting
Frequently asked questions
-
You may experience swelling, redness, tenderness, and bruising at the injection site. Uneven swelling is normal and should balance out as it subsides. These effects typically resolve within a few days to two weeks.
-
Bruising can occur despite precautions to avoid it. If bruising happens, it will typically be apparent immediately after treatment. Bruises may change colour as they heal, from red to purple, black, green, and eventually yellow. Using Arnica and Vitamin K cream can help speed up the healing process.
-
We aim for subtle, natural results, which take 2-4 weeks to fully settle. A review can be scheduled afterward, where additional filler can be added for a fee, or, if needed, filler can be adjusted or dissolved with hyaluronidase.
-
Most patients experience minimal discomfort during the procedure. Numbing cream and local anaesthetic are used for added comfort.
-
It’s best to avoid applying makeup for 12-24 hours after your filler procedure to reduce the risk of infection or irritation at the injection site.
